NAME
sflwl - Query Speak Freely Look Who's Listening client
SYNOPSIS
sflwl

-cdlmu

[*]user_name ...
DESCRIPTION
sflwl
is a client program which requests contact information from a
server running the Speak Freely Look Who's Listening server
(sflwld).
sflwl
allows users to find one another and establish Speak Freely conversations
even if one or both have dial-up Internet connections where the host name
and Internet address vary from session to session.
Each
user_name
is matched against the E-mail address and full user name of
active users who have informed the Look Who's Listening site of
their presence. If the
user_name
occurs within either of these fields, the IP address and port
on which matching users are listening are listed. Options allow
different forms of output.
If the
user_name
is preceded by an asterisk (*), only exact matches with the
user's E-mail address are reported.
OPTIONS
- -c
-
Output consists of the command line options for
sfspeaker
to connect to the matching user(s). For example, if you want to
connect to a dial-up user whose E-mail address is
smudley@internut.com,
you can use the command:
sfmike -t `sflwl -c smudley@internut.com`
to connect to that person, as long as he's currently connected
to an Internet service provider and running Speak Freely,
even you don't know the site name or IP address he's been assigned
for the current session.
- -d
-
Enables debug output.
- -hhost:port
-
The query is sent to the named host (and optional port number, in
case the host doesn't use the standard port, 2076). The
-h
option overrides any host and port specified by the
SPEAKFREE_LWL_ASK
and/or
SPEAKFREE_LWL_TELL
variables.
- -l
-
The list of hosts which matched the
user_name
is shown in long form, including all information the users
supplied to the Look Who's Listening server.
- -m
-
Shows the server status message, if any. This
message provides information regarding the server, such as the
World-Wide Web URL where it publishes the list of active users.
- -u
-
Prints how-to-call information.
ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES
If no host (and optional port number) is specified,
sflwl
will use the host and port specified by the
SPEAKFREE_LWL_ASK
environment variable, if defined. If
SPEAKFREE_LWL_ASK
is not defined, the host name is taken from the
SPEAKFREE_LWL_TELL
variable used by
sfspeaker
to identify its Look Who's Listening host.
BUGS
The number of matching items returned is limited to what will
fit in a single 512 byte packet. This is deliberate; users who wish
to browse active sites should consult the HTML file published by
the Look Who's Listening site rather than make wild-card
requests with
sflwl.
